The minimum number of hours required for a private pilots license is 40 hours. The Central Wisconsin Airport (KCWA) makes for an excellent training environment with the control tower. A Discovery flight is a great way to experience flying the airplane, and it only costs $180.00 dollars.

Obtaining a private pilot’s certificate allows you to fly an airplane and carry passengers as well as baggage. Although operating expenses may be equally shared with your passengers, you may not fly for “compensation or hire”. The certificate is sent to you by the FAA upon satisfactory completion of your training program and a practical test.

Student Pilot Certificate

You must be at least 16 years of age to receive a student pilot certificate. You must undergo a routine medical examination that may only be administered by FAA designated doctors, called aviation medical examiners. Even if you have a physical handicap, medical certificates can be issued in many cases. However, operation limitations may be imposed depending upon the nature of the disability. A student pilot certificate is required before you can solo.

Requirements to obtain a Private Pilot Certificate

You must be at least 17 years of age. As Aviation English is the de facto international language of aviation for safety purposes, you are required to read, speak, and write in English. You must obtain at least a 3rd class FAA medical certificate/student pilot certificate, pass the private pilot knowledge test with a score of 70% or better, and successfully complete a practical (flight) test, which will be given as a final exam by a FAA designated examiner.
